Welcome
Hi my name is Steve Benton. I started my career in counselling in 2004 after 17 years of working in the Aerospace Industry.
In 2007 I graduated as a counsellor, whilst supporting young people and adolescents aged 11 to 25 years of age. Learning about human growth and development, and the transitional challenges young people face was invaluable, and this remains so in my adult work. During this time I worked for charities, and in schools.
I studied the following counselling approaches, and integrated meta-competencies into my person-centred counselling.
Egans Problem Management and Opportunity Development
Transactional Analysis.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
Bereavement Counselling.

My development
In 2007 I started to work with adults, whilst studying CBT at the University of Birmingham. In 2009 I achieved my postgraduate qualification in CBT. I went on to achieve full accreditation with the BABCP.
I also trained and worked with Gamcare, helping people to quit their gambling addictions.
I have trained in non-substance misuse addictions. For instance, internet addiction, shopping addiction, and porn addiction.
I have worked full time for the government, and in private health care settings. I have worked with inpatients and outpatients, at a well known psychiatric hospital in Edgbaston Birmingham.
I have worked fulltime at Combat Stress, helping veterans to overcome complex trauma, using TF-CBT. This was an intensive 6 week residential programme that included group work.
More recently, I have worked part-time for the NHS as a CBT therapist.
I currently do associate work for prestigious private healthcare companies, as well as my private practice work.
I have trained in the following psychotherapies and integrative them into my current practice.
Mindfulness.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy.
Radical Acceptance.
DBT - Emotional Regulation Skills.
NLP and coaching.
My training is continuous, and this allows me to keep up to date with evidence based treatment.
